I warmly welcome you to the homepage of the Division of Control and Instrumentation. The Division excels in teaching and research activities in the areas of control, automation, robotics, computer vision, and biomedical engineering. It actively promotes the development and integration of these areas so as to bring about innovations and new applications. The Division offers two final year options: (1) Intelligent Systems and Control Engineering, and (2) Biomedical Electronics. The Division also offers a very successful MSc programme in Computer Control and Automation. Our graduates are very much welcome and play critical roles in local industries, such as electronics manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, refineries, automation, defence and many industrial sectors.
The strategic research areas of the Division include: (1) Control System Technologies; (2) Mobile Robotics; (3) Sensor Networks and Distributed Intelligence; (4) Machine Learning; (5) Biomedical Engineering. These research activities are driven by Singapore’s needs to develop more efficient and competitive expertise and technologies relevant to the automation and control industries, national defense, national strategic areas identified by NRF as well as NTU’s Five Peaks. The areas are also aligned well with the three research programmes, namely, E-Sensing, E-Sustainability and E-Mobility, of the Centre for E-City and the research programmes of Bio-Instrumentation, Devices and Signal Processing Centre of Excellence. We also contribute to research institutes within NTU such as ERIAN and EWRI and collaborate with research institutes under Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) of Singapore such as Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), Data Storage Institute (DSI) and Institute for Info-Comm Research (I2R).
The Division organizes a biennial International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision that provides a forum for sharing the latest knowledge and development in these areas. This conference has been successfully held in Singapore, China and Vietnam and enjoys good reputation in internationally.
Regards,
Lihua
