Important: If you are taking the Independent Study, you have to register EE6290 in semester you would be take it through the Graduate Students Course Registration. The deadline of Registration for independent study is by the end of week two of the current term. If you have selected the topic with your school, you must also register this independent study EE6290 through the Graduate Students Course Registration system.
One of the most common and efficient practices for the MSc ISM/project selection is to search the divisional staff web pages to look for suitable supervisors whose research interests match your one and then contact them through the e-mail or telephone to discuss about your selection.
Project/Independent Study Topic Selection
1) MSc project/independent study topic selection is opened now for both full time and part time MSc students. The project / independent study topic will be allocated based on the student selection. Please kindly check the topic list at this web address. Note that you may convert the interested project title into the one of independent study, or vise verse, upon to agreement with the respective supervisor.
2) There is no project registration form, once student confirmed the project/independent study topic selection with the respective supervisor (send an e-mail to the supervisor, for example), kindly ask the supervisor to send the confirmation e-mail with the respective project/independent study title, student name and matric No. to MSC co-ordinator: A/P Song Qing. For independent study, the student must also register EE6290 through the Graduate Students Course Registration System.
3) Students should contact the respective supervisors for selection (this is not subject registration). Direct e-mail to the MSC co-ordinator from student is not acceptable.
4) Students are allowed to CONFIRM for only ONE project/independent study topic per student with the respective supervisor. However, since there are more project topics listed rather than the independent study topics, the student may consult the respective supervisors for the possibility to turn a project proposal into a independent study if both parties are interested.
5) Students are not allowed to deselect project/independent study once confirmed, i.e. the student's name appeared on this web page. Except permission is obtained from MSC co-ordinator.
6) Students can proposed their own projects/independent study topic upon consultation with the MSc co-ordinator by e-mail for example.
7) Independent Study Module (ISM) Assessment
The study should be conducted over the period of one semester. Students are to submit and make an oral presentation on their ISM report to their supervisor by week 13 of the respective semester. An extension may be granted on a case by case basis for one additional semester with In-Progress (IP) status only upon submission of a satisfactory interim report to their supervisor by week 13. ISM with IP status should be completed in the following semester; hence students must register the ISM again during the sequence course registration period.
8) ISM Report
A report of between 6,000 - 8,000 words excluding tables, diagrams and references is to be submitted for examination.
- Draft hardcopy for presentation
- Final version in softcopy (pdf format) in CD. (Name of student and Project Title should indicate clearly on the CD).
The final version of the report in softcopy is required to submit to their project supervisor within one week after the oral presentation.
MSc Change of Option of Study
Any MSC student wants to change his/her option from Project to ISM or vise verse, please download & complete form "Request to change option of study", submit to A/P Song Qing through the respective (new) supervisor. Further details
